Introduction: How I Got Into Manga

Since I was little, I’ve loved to read. In elementary school, my mom started buying me manga from the bookstore. At first, I wasn’t sure what they were, but I quickly grew to love them. The stories and art styles differed from anything I had ever read. I became a big manga fan and started reading as much as possible.I found a few forums and groups dedicated to manga fans, and it was great finally talking to people who understood my passion. We would discuss our favorite series, recommend new ones to each other, and even share artwork and cosplay photos. It was great finally connecting with other people who loved manga as much as I did.

The History of Manga

Manga, or Japanese comics, have been around since the early 1900s. The first manga magazine was published in Japan in 1917, and by the 1930s, the manga was becoming increasingly popular. During World War II, many manga artists were recruited to work for the Japanese government to help boost morale and propaganda. After the war, manga grew in popularity, with a new wave of artists emerging in the 1950s. Osamu Tezuka often referred to as the “Godfather of Manga,” was one of the most influential artists of this period. His unique style and storytelling helped pave the way for future manga artists.
